The online rental company Airbnb officially put a ban on parties including the open-invite gatherings and house party to its guest who use their rented properties.
The rental platform announced the temporary ban in August 2020 on all parties and events in all listings globally which at the time was in effect until further notice.
Airbnb said “Over time, the party ban became much more than a public health measure. It developed into a bedrock community policy to support our Hosts and their neighbors.”
Before, guest were free to host parties in their rented properties but the high profile of trouble started shooting out from this kind of initiatives. In 2019, the company faced an incident of shooting in California where 5 people were killed.
As a pandemic measure turn and effective after testing on its benefits, the platform has now made it one of its terms the no party term to all guest through its properties.
The short term rental platforms have always struggle with the house parties and their increased negative reports on large scale.
Since the implementation of the policy in August 2020, it has seen proved 44% year-over-year drop in the rate of party reports.
“The temporary ban has proved effective, and today we are officially codifying the ban as our policy,” Airbnb post indicates.
“At Airbnb, we believe the neighborhoods and communities in which we operate are as important as the Hosts and guests who use our service. We know that the overwhelming majority of our Hosts share their homes responsibly, just as the overwhelming majority of guests are responsible and treat their listings and neighborhoods as if they were their own.”
The turned is to focus on prevent these rare cases of Hosts who don’t operate responsible, or guests who try to throw unauthorized parties.
The strong policies to be complemented by strong enforcement, they introduced a number of anti-party measures in recent years to enforce the new and existing policies to stop both unauthorized parties and chronic party houses.
This long term policy is enacted to help encourage and support community safety.
The rental firm will remove the 16- person limit occupancy and allow larger homes listed on the platform to be booked to full occupancy.
Any attempts to violet the new rule by guests will attracts penalties including account suspension, full removal from the platform.
The year 2021, Airbnb suspended about 6,600 guests for violating the party ban.
